Good morning lovies! I know I owe you all an update. Thank you thank you for all the prayers and sweet notes. Steve and I appreciate it more than you know. The days start to blend together and I can’t quite keep track of what I’ve learned and when, so hopefully I can get it all down this morning. I’ve had 1 cup of coffee!! Time is a strange thing when going through something like this. Some days are painfully long and then they bleed into weeks.
We got a call yesterday on the pathology results from the New Year’s Eve biopsies. We are looking at is as really good news because it gives us a definite course of action and doesn’t leave major decisions like lumpectomy vs. mastectomy up to us. The main tumor’s friends are in fact both invasive ductal carcinoma. Both are hormone positive and HER-2 negative. So basically just smaller versions of the main tumor. They are all on the same side of my left breast. This puts my overall cancer around 7 cm which means mastectomy. Cut that killer boob off!!!
We also had an appointment with the Genetic Counselor and my blood has been drawn and sent off to the lab. The results will determine whether we take preventative measures and do a bilateral mastectomy or just a single. The really good news is that because my ancestry shows I’m 3% Jewish (Jesus runs in my blood) the test is covered by insurance. Amen.
The really good news is that we have 5 days of respite which means NO poking, NO prodding, NO fondling. Tuesday we meet the entire Valley Medical team for a 4 hour consult and Tuesday we have appointments with the Breast Reconstruction doc and the Overlake Surgeon. We will have a plan! Hallelujah!
Today we celebrate love and life. Steve and I met 2 years ago for breakfast at Jay Berry’s Cafe and we never looked back. I knew the minute I saw him with his Seahawks sweatshirt, hat on backwards and huge smile that he was a keeper. He is my best friend, my lover and soulmate. He is an incredible caregiver and it makes my heart break that after just 3 months of marriage we have to fight cancer together. But I wouldn’t do it any other way. God had a plan when I swiped right on Steve’s Bumble profile and it has been an incredible 2 years and we never looked back. Cheers my sweet family and friends! Here’s to an awesome 2019. Buckle up cuz it’s going to be an amazing ride. Bring on the plan!
